Today we are sharing with you the work of In Abundance Photography. Helanje and Bertus had their special day in Swellendam. The Canola fields look so gorgeous in the background

Lovebirds | How did you two meet?

In May 2013 Bertus vd Merwe was invited by his cousin to a braai in Stellenbosch, his cousin's girlfriend invited me to the same braai. When I arrived I saw this amazing man standing by the fire with his farm clothes and gumboots on. Luckily I also had my gumboots on and it was love at first sight. the rest is history.

I said Yes | How did the proposal go down?

Bertus organised my dream proposal (1.be surprised, 2. someone must take pictures) with my sister and a wonderful friend and photographer (Marli Koen).
So, I was "tricked" into asking Bertus to a couples shoot (meanwhile he organised it). Since Bertus knew about the arrangement he played it cool and told me : "NO!!!!". He wanted to make it look as if he knew nothing... Cleverly he knew that I will ask again! So we went to a couples shoot I THOUGHT I ORGANISED so when he went onto his one knee - I definitely was 1. Surprised and 2. Someone amazing could capture the moment.

The Big Day | Tell us the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

The theme was "Plaasstories". We got married on a farm just outside Swellendam, getting married OUTSIDE in August in Swellendam is a big risk, but for 9 months - as long as we were engaged, we prayed for beautiful weather. Getting closer to the wedding date I prayed for about 3 months that on my wedding day, it should be sunny, no wind and 24 degrees Celsius.
Believe it or not, on the morning of our wedding my fiancé (now my husband) switched on the radio for the morning news, like any good farmer would. The weather report read : "Swellendam blue skies, NO WIND AND 24 DEGREES!" How BLESSED!

The fact that my Grandfather, who was the pastor at my parents wedding and who baptised me, was also waiting down the aisle to now marry me, was one of the most cherished moments. Walking down the aisle, with Stef Bos's song "Ek wil", holding my Dad's hand is a moment I will never forget.... My dad was my favourite man in my life until I met Bertus. Holding his hand, the same hand that held me up and supported me for so many years, the same hand that reminds me how he dried my tears every time I got hurt or had my heart broken, this same hand is leading me down the aisle. I couldn't fight the tears of joy as we walked, knowing that my dream-come-true, almost Husband is at the end of this aisle, I willingly walk this line to take the next hand, vowing to never let go.

Since I met Bertus, Buks (his ever so loyal and always-by-his-side Jack Russell) has been Bertus's rock, and Best friend. It was therefor simply suiting that he would be the ring-bearer! We had a suite made for Buks for the wedding and taught him to wait quietly at the back of the aisle... and then - when my grandfather asked for the rings, I turned around and whistled super loudly like any proper farm girl towards the people and up came Buks running in his suite and tie and the rings tied securely at the back of his. (It was rather funny and a great happening, the bride, dressed all prim and proper, whistling like a cowboy down the aisle at her ring-bearer dog!) I loved every second of it.

I Quote | Describe your wedding day in one sentence

Make your life a story worth telling. Our wedding is my favourite story to tell, because it was so extra ordinary.

Forever & Always | Any advice for future brides

A wedding does not need to be expensive to make it a story worth telling.
