Beauty Secrets of Photogenic Women

Beauty Secrets of Photogenic Women

via

We've all been there-riding out your morning commute trying to find a little mindless entertainment. Inherently, you turn to Insta or Snapchat (because, what else?) and start making your way through an endless sea of #selfies and group brunch shots, each warranting a double-tap as you scroll to the next. How do these influencers take such flawless photos?

Because we're just as curious as you are, we did our selfie research (that's a thing, right?) and debunked the secrets of the photogenic women, so you can take a flawless pic, too-#NoFilter.

Werk Your Angles

This might take a little finesse and finagle with your self-facing camera, but once you find the angle that frames your face, take mental note of your arm and body position. Once you have this down, you'll be able to capture that flawlessness and share it with the world!

Watch The Lighting

To put it mildly, lighting can be tricky. For instance, if you're in a building with a killer view and want a photo with the thumb-stopping backdrop, the light behind you will result in a bright and blurry photo. Make sure that the strongest light source is at least somewhat in front (or to the side) of you so your face doesn't disappear.

Use the Right Makeup

There are plenty of formulas out there that are specific to those who love the spotlight. From color-correcting concealers to light-mastering foundation, HD makeup uses light-reflecting technology to blur imperfections and make your complexion look silky smooth.

In addition to using the right products, contouring and highlighting your features will have your cheekbones ready to #strikeapose. Once you've contoured your cheekbones, nose and forehead, add a swipe of highlighter to your Cupid's bow, the high-points of your cheekbones, inner corners of your eyes and down the bridge of your nose to give your face added dimension. But not too much, you don't want to look greasy.

Now you can strike a pose, vogue, vogue, vogue.

Elongate Your Neck

Show of hands: How many of you have opened your camera while looking down at it to the horror of the surprise-selfie angle? *Raises hand* Yup.

When you look down at your camera, your eyes and cheekbones get lost in the frame. Keep the camera slightly above eye level, so you have to tilt your chin upwards to elongate your neck and facial features.

Lipstick Shade Matters

Every photogenic woman knows how to make her lips look pouty-without being guilty of duck face or fish gape). Swipe on a classic nude lipstick or your signature fiery red and add a touch of gloss to the center of your bottom lip to give it a plumped effect. While we do love vampy lipstick, darker shades can make your lips look thinner.

Don't Let Your Eyebrows Get Lost

Lips-check. Contour-check. Highlight-check. But what about your bold brows? Using a pencil or volumizing eyebrow mascara, fill in your arches one shade darker than their natural color to ensure they don't get lost in your next snap.

Know The Secret To Group Photos

The only thing that should be flat in your otherwise-dynamic group picture is the plane you are all standing on (and we wish we meant jet). Avoid awkward pictures by making sure no one is standing noticeably closer to the camera than everyone else. This will ensure the group looks like a #squad to be reckoned with.

No doubt, the reason photogenic women have such F.L.A.W.L.E.S.S pictures is because they're cool, confident and having fun! If you feel best in sweats, rock that messy topknot and flirt with your camera! If you're feeling moody, show off your #OOTD and your favorite lipstick to match. As long as you're comfortable, the picture will tell it.
