We seriously cannot get over the golden light at this California winter wedding - just wait until you see how it lights up the spectacular bushels of pampas grass lining the ceremony aisle, as well as all those lush florals in ivory, blush and crimson! This wedding at Greengate Ranch & Vineyard in San Luis Obispo, California was possibly even more beautiful at night, scroll below to see what we mean!

The Ceremony

Why did you choose this location for your ceremony? We specifically choose Greengate for the property and houses. It was so important to us to have our family together for the weekend. We fell in love with the pond as soon as we saw it, it's so tranquil and in the fall with the leaves it's a golden paradise.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding ceremony? We did not do a first look before and were so happy having that moment of seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony.

Your ceremony in three words. Personal, elegant, simplistic.

How did you go about planning your ceremony? Shayla's Dad has performed numerous ceremonies so we asked him for a little bit of advice when meeting with our officiant to get an idea of the structure and flow. It was very important to us for the ceremony to be personal. Michael and I were set up by a mutual family friend (who performed the ceremony) so we really wanted him to speak to why he and his wife thought Michael and I would be a good match.

What were your ceremony readings? Matthew 19:4-6 and Union by Robert Fulghum.

Did you include any traditions in your ceremony? It was important to Michael that we used traditional vows.

Do you have any budget tips for other couples? Go over the budget with your significant other, it's helpful and good practice to talk about money.

If you had it to do over again, is there anything you would do differently? If you want a videographer, get one.

What advice do you have for other couples in the midst of planning a wedding? Try not to sweat the small stuff -and wedding planners are worth every penny.

The Reception

How would you describe your reception? The setting was so romantic, classy, and timeless. With such a beautiful setting we were able to relax, cut loose and have fun!

Why did you choose this location for your reception? The barn and grass areas was perfect for dinner and dancing. We ate outside the barn under the bistro lights and then went inside it for dancing. We loved that the barn was closed during cocktail hour so the guests had a grand reveal of it before being invited in - it was truly magical.

Please tell us about any other special details or moments from your reception. Having Tinker Tin was the best, we loved the camper photo booth!

Is there anything else that helps tell the story of your wedding? The Central Coast holds such a special place in mine and Michael's hearts (both being Cal Poly Alumni). While we didn't meet there we have both been able to share so many amazing memories of our individual time in San Luis Obispo that has allowed us to connect and relate with each other on another level. We both feel so grounded after visiting and think about how lucky and fortunate we are to have once called it home. It's no fallacy being called the happiest city in America. We wanted to share with everyone those experiences that warmed our hearts; from wine tasting Thursday night (at Talley Vineyards, the winery we got engaged at) to Farmer's Market to the rehearsal dinner (at the beautiful Ranch House) all leading up to the most unforgettable day of our lives, our wedding day. It was truly a weekend we (and our families) will never forget.

How fun is this Jenga guest book?!

One of my favorite things about our wedding was the element of surprise. I am aware that design and creative matters are not my forte, so having What was your favorite moment or part of the reception?Lovelyfest Event Design was worth every penny and then some. I still remember the feeling I had walking into the barn for the first time (like my engagement) it literally took my breath away. Michael looked at me and said "I knew you would love it".

Are there any DIY details you'd like to tell us about? We camp a lot and were able to use some of our lanterns that we have at the reception which was nice.

Did you include any other traditions in your wedding? My family loves loves loves the movie White Christmas, so my sisters surprised me and performed the sister routine for me which brought me to tears.

What was your first dance song? Father/daughter or mother/son dance?
Bride and Groom - Give It All We Got Tonight by George Straight
Father/daughter - I Loved Her First by Heartland
Mother/son - It's Your Song by Garth Brooks

What was the best advice you received as a bride? Worry as much as you want up until the wedding but when the day comes remember that all that matters is that you get to marry the man of your dreams so relax and enjoy the day.
