Rudby Hall Wedding With A Vintage Wedding Dress

Rudby Hall Wedding With A Vintage Wedding Dress

Isn't the colour palette for Laura & Simon's big day just gorgeous? Normally I write off pinks and purples due to a horrendous bedroom redecoration job I demanded as a 12 year old - but this, this is how to do it! The blooms are just beautiful, and totally abundant too - we love that Laura has filled every space with pretty flowers.

The adorable tea length gown Laura is wearing belonged to her Nana, whose happy relationship with her Granpa was a big inspiration to our smiley Bride - we just love stories like this and I'm sure it would have been a lovely thought for her Nana to picture her dancing the night away in it.

Laura had the Bridesmaids dresses with that gorgeous ruffled shoulder detail made for her girls in China and don't they look just so pretty? The perfect dress to suit her wedding party of different ages.

The photographs come from the fabulous Sarah Jane Ethan and we just love how happy everyone looks - especially Laura!

The Bride

Laura The Bride: I've always been inspired by my Nana & Granpa's long and happy relationship. Gran passed away 8 yrs ago and as she couldn't be there I thought the opportunity to wear her wedding dress which she wore in 1959 was a way of her being there on the day. I got it professionally cleaned and thought this would be a lovely way to celebrate the evening session of the wedding. Nana's dress was a classic lightweight knee length dress in lace, ideal for dancing the night away. After months of searching for the dream dress I eventually found it in a bridal factory outlet in Northallerton. The dress was a full length A line lace dress with cap sleeves and accessorised with a elegant Tiffany pearl pendant and complimentary bracelet.

The Groom

He always had a style in mind but finding the right colour was the problem. He decided on a DKNY fitted suit, with a Paul Smith patterned shirt to give it a different look rather than a plain white shirt. A slim tie along with a Paul Smith pocket square and a Loake brogue to finish the look off, gave it a creative twist.

The Venue

I chose Rudby Hall whilst I was working in the local village, I drove past this Hall for roughly a year and always thought I would love to be married there. At the time it wasn't a wedding venue but a private residence and by chance noticed it was to be opened as a wedding venue. We went and had a look around and fell in love with the place immediately, with its split roomed ground floor that housed a wedding breakfast room, wedding ceremony room that become the night time dance floor and relaxed lounge with deep sofa's to escape the hustle and bustle a wedding brings all surrounding the bar area located beneath the stairway. The grounds and hall are overlooked by the beautiful Cleveland hills and as we live roughly 15mins from this stunning place it was an ideal location for our wedding. A massive thank you to Sandra and all her staff for making our day run as smoothly as possible.

The Decor

We chose a relaxed vintage style consisting of dusky purples, off whites and midnight blue's. I had a clear direction on the flowers. It was important that the flowers were relaxed, elegant, natural and signalled summer. My bouquet definitely had to be non structured or formal and consist of wild summer flowers which the florist Kirsty of Darling & Green managed to perfection. We loved Kirsty from the outset as she had the creative flair that filled us with confidence to put our ideas into floral reality.

The Wedding Party

Due to the large age gaps of the bridal party (10-25), I found it extremely hard to find suitable dresses that would be appropriate to suit them all. Due to my fashion design background I knew of a factory in China that made the two style dresses from the same fabric. As for the Groomsmen we wanted the casual look but also a slightly different blue to that of the groom. Suits were hired from Review in Stockton on Tees.

The Ceremony

We didn't want a religious ceremony as we wanted to keep the day as relaxed as possible. Looking back over the photos the ceremony was packed with laughter and with 64 family and close friends it was very intimate and personal.

The Entertainment

We wanted band instead of the usual disco. A friend of Si plays in the band Cousin Matthew, they perform at weddings and functions and he offered his services and managed to persuade the band theirs, to play on the night. Fantastic music and a fantastic night.

The Food

Smoked Salmon for starter, classic roast beef with Yorkshire puddings and all the veg was the ideal choice for the main course, finished with chocolate torte for pudding. Food was cooked to perfection and plenty leftover for second helpings, full credit to CWC Events for the catering.

We went for a classic Victoria sponge cake, 3 tiers garnished with fresh summer berries. As Si and I are not fruit cake people we thought the sponge cake would be ideal and cater for everyone. Night time food was mini hot pork n stuffing buns and mini fish n chips served to people as they mingled.

The Photography

Sarah Jane Ethan did a fantastic job of capturing our special day on camera. She made us both feel very relaxed and at ease during the full day. Her photos were natural and very creative. Climbing the tree house for a photograph was a particular highlight and gave us one of our favourite photos of our day. A massive thank you to Sarah Jane for your beautiful photographs.
