Coastal Fun on Your Durban Honeymoon

Considering a South African honeymoon? The exciting waterfront city of Durban is ideal for couples that love the beach. There are so many things to see and do along the coastline, that we've helped you by narrowing down the list to a group of must-visit locations!

North Beach

Arguable the most popular beach in Durban, North Beach practically has it all for outdoor enthusiasts. From surfing to navigating an inflatable catamaran, you won't lack for things to do on this sunny strip of coast. Especially during the high season, tourists flock here, which means that you can expect plenty of amenities and options with hotels, shopping, and restaurants. The bad news is that this beach can get crowded, so stop by early if you want a quieter experience.

Umhlanga Rocks & Lighthouse

An area with a more upscale and boutique vibe is Umhlanga Rocks. Couples looking for a less touristy and more secluded area will love Bronze Beach. Want to have a romantic picnic in the sand? Visit the Umhlanga Lighthouse (pictured above) and its rockier coast for a beautiful view and relaxed atmosphere.

Sodwana Bay

If the two of you appreciate more adventurous recreation, head to Sodwana Bay for some stunning scuba diving. With some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world, this area attracts divers from across the globe. If you aren't able to dive due to your travel itinerary or experience level, there are still plenty of ways to appreciate this lush bay. You can go deep sea fishing, kite surfing, or hike on one of the many nearby nature trails.

Hibberdene

If you want to have your honeymoon somewhere outside of the city limits, try Hibberdene. This small community has everything you need for a rustic beach honeymoon. Especially if you want to appreciate how locals experience the southern coast, Hibberdene is the perfect place for you. There are several hotels and inns to choose from, as well as a selection of cafes. Make sure to spend time at the nearby lagoon and to swim in the warm waters of this calmer section of the Indian Ocean.
