The Offbeat Bride: Aimee (post written by her best friend, Elizabeth)

Her offbeat partner: Dr. Frank, History Professor

Date and location of wedding: Beverly Hills Courthouse, Los Angeles, CA - August 28, 2015

Our offbeat wedding at a glance:

Aimee has never wanted a big, traditional wedding. Luckily, I talked her out of eloping in Las Vegas. She chose to get married at the Beverly Hills Courthouse instead. After an unfortunate disaster at the dry cleaners with her first wedding dress, we found the perfect Bianca Jagger-inspired romper suit from Nasty Gal at the last minute.

Aimee bought some pretty gold buttons from Mood fabric store and had them sewn on the romper and she found the cutest gold brogues online. She asked her five-year-old goddaughter, Olivia (my daughter), to serve as maid of honor and ring bearer. Olivia wore a navy blue boy's suit from H&M, a plaid bow tie from Crewcuts, and saddle shoes (sans socks) from Footmates.

I made Aimee's bouquet which featured her favorite flowers, daisies and Billy balls for a punch of color. I also made the groom's boutonnière out of a succulent and Billy balls. Her engagement ring is an uncut diamond, totally fitting Aimee's unconventional and quirky personality.

Tell us about the ceremony:

The ceremony was simple and short and held by the Court Justice at the Beverly Hills Courthouse. It was funny that Olivia stood stiff as a board during the ceremony. She took her job very seriously!

Tell us about your reception:

We walked across the street to Beverly Hills City Hall, and I confetti-bombed the newlyweds. The bride and groom took photos in front of a mural that said "Life is Beautiful" - perfect for the day. My husband decorated Aimee's adorable Fiat with a "Just Married" banner.

What was your most important lesson learned?

I am so happy that Aimee followed her own instincts and had a small, no-stress wedding. I also love that she chose untraditional attire which better suited her style. I gave her this advice: Whatever you wedding budget is, always splurge on the best photographer you can find. Those photos live forever.
