Tipis & Camping Rustic Post-Wedding Free Flowing Celebration Party...

I really do hope that WWW gives couples the confidence to create their wedding in their own perfect way. This wedding is a gorgeous example of a loved up pair wanting to commit to one another without a big wedding day. Their words of advice "you should do what you want to do and not what other people want you to do" really resonate with me and I hope that this lovely celebration gives you much inspiration this afternoon.

James and Tarn tied the knot on the 18th March 2015 in Sri Lanka and decided to hold a wedding party in the UK on the 16th May 2015 for all of their loved ones. Their free flowing party had tipis and camping, sunshine and smiles. Tunes were played on the iPad, there was a Victoria sponge wedding cake and a scrummy hog roast to boot.

Thanks so much to Photography by Vicki for sending over these simply divine images.

THE PROPOSAL | We both love snowboarding, we went on holiday to Norway for a week with a big group of friends. On our first day on the slopes we were having a fun day with friends and James fancied doing one last run, all our friends said they had done enough and were going to call it a day, so I thought I had better go with him so he wasn't alone!! On our last run James went off into a little wooded off piste bit that we had been in and out of during the day and I followed him, he looked like he was waiting for me to catch up...... I stopped and asked if he was alright and he got a little box out of his jacket pocket and asked me to marry him!! I of course said yes!! :) :) :) It was such a beautiful setting and the sun was starting to go down! Awesome!

THE VISION | We wanted a really chilled wedding on a beach in the sunshine with no hassle or stress of a 'big wedding day' so we decided to go to Sri Lanka as it looked like a beautiful country, somewhere we hadn't been before and somewhere with the most perfect relaxed atmosphere (which it was - Sri Lanka has the most amazing landscape and super lovely people). On our return we wanted to have a really chilled party with 'EVERYONE' we love and who we wanted to celebrate our wedding with us!

We are both very relaxed, down to earth and chilled people.... so Tarn came up with the idea of having a Tipi in a field with a nice rustic and relaxed theme with a hog roast, music, camping (for those who like it) with all our family and friends in a super relaxed atmosphere with no regimented times for anything.... a free flowing party....

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Finding the field..... then searching the web for Tipis.... Booking the butcher for the Hog Roast and sorting out what other food we would like! Everything else fell into place as we got closer to the date! We were so lucky with having Vicki as our photographer as we got in touch at short notice and amazingly she was available! We knew what we wanted it all to look like and managed to get all sorted and organised in time for our party!!

THE VENUE | In a very lovely field in West Sussex!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The beautiful dress - Helen @ Button & Bows. Wedding rings and jewellery (Tarn is incredibly lucky to have an amazingly talented Step-Dad who is a goldsmith and she also works at the family business making jewellery) - Eatons is the family business and made the wedding rings. Tarn made her earrings and bracelets and Tarnz Designz is Tarn's business.

FINDING THE DRESS | Being quite an individual person and not following the crowd, I went dress shopping with my mum with a vision of what I'd like in my mind.... we couldn't find that dress.....so.... we had one handmade by a lovely lady who was highly recommended by a very good friend. It was really fun to have one handmade as it was exactly what I wanted....very simple, beautiful lace and free flowing!

GROOM'S ATTIRE | A very relaxed attire of some chinos and a nice white shirt (Gant trews & Ralph Lauren Shirt).

THE READINGS & MUSIC | As it was a totally relaxed affair we had planned no speeches but my Dad did an Ad Lib one which was really lovely. Music was played in the background throughout the whole evening, James made a play list and we just played that through some speakers we hooked up to my iPad!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | As it was totally relaxed and not a 'traditional' full wedding we didn't have Bridesmaids/Best Man etc..... as we wanted everyone to relax and enjoy themselves, plus we love all our friends and couldn't pick out who we would want for the roles!

THE FLOWERS | We wanted a lovely rustic theme with a bit of bright pink! Bright pink gerberas, white and gypsum..... all our flowers were arranged by a lovely family friend.

THE CAKE | We wanted a cake that we both love - a Victoria Sponge with lashings of fresh strawberries and cream..... its both of ours favourite cake... We gave that challenge to yet another family friend!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Tarn searched the web, and when she first saw Vicki's website she knew she was the lady for us! Colourful, relaxed and natural - perfect! The most amazing Vicki from 'Photography by Vicki' - she made us both feel so natural, relaxed and totally as ease.... Awesome!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Tarn decorated all the vases and jam jars with rustic twine and chalkboard hearts with J&T on them all. We had feathers within the flowers which Tarn had glittered!

Sweet Jars - everyone could help themselves to whatever they liked, Tarn decorated them too!

Signs - Tarn handmade them...... handmade stencils, lots of spray painting and glitter involved! ☺

A lovely poster for people to sign... rather than the traditional book - we can put this on the wall and see it all the time!

THE HONEYMOON | Sri Lanka... absolutely stunning!!!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | All of it...... we enjoyed every single moment!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | If you don't want the traditional wedding with all the stress this is definitely the way to do it! We absolutely loved getting married abroad on a beach in the sunshine and then having a massive chilled party with everyone when we came back! You have to remember its your wedding and you should do what you want to do and not what other people want you to do!!
