Can't Afford It? Get Over It! BHLDN's Golden Rose Pumps for Under $150 - The Broke-Ass Bride: Bad-Ass Inspiration on a Broke-Ass Budget

via

Hello again BABs! Today the #GownHunter is wearing a different hat, as the #ShoeHunter! This week's challenge has been uber-fun, and I wouldn't hate it if you sent a few more shoe hunts my way!

Today's inspiration shoes are the BHLDN Golden Rose pumps, designed by Freya Rose and made in Spain using 100-year-old 24K gold leaf fabric - yes, you read that right! As Carrie Bradshaw might say, " Hello, Spanish lover!" Besides being out of reader Brigid's budget, they also happen to be sold out right now. Double bummer.

BAB reader Brigid commented on this post to send up the Bat BAB Signal of distress:

Is there any way you can help me get over the Golden Rose pumps at BHLDN? They're the most luscious thing ever, but I'd like to spend under $150. I need it to be reasonably good for the feet (size 6.5-7 wide). Help me, BAB Lisa, you're my only hope!

Brigid, never fear! I've got my cape on and it's #ShoeHunter to the rescue!

Found a gold shoe that works for the feet and the budget, but doesn't have a 24K gold-leaf fabric flower? I got ya there, too:

Or if you're feeling industrious:

  1. Head to your local craft supply store with any online or circular coupons in hand.
  2. Ask them if they have any broken stems of their faux flowers (ideally something rose-like) - sometimes they'll give you pieces/parts for *free*, or at least significantly reduce the cost.
  3. Pick two flowers reasonably similar in shape - it probably doesn't matter what color they are.
  4. Grab a can of gold spray paint (make sure it will work on fabric if they're silk flowers).
  5. Take it all home, spray the flowers outside or in a well-ventilated area, then when the flowers are dry use a few drops of hot glue to stick 'em to the shoes.
  6. For a more temporary fix - in case you want to wear the shoes sans-flower one day - place a small piece of scotch or masking tape to the shoe and add the hot glue to the tape. Test the tape before trying this technique - you want it to be able to pull off without marring the shoe surface.
  7. Celebrate your crafty savings! (Don't forget to add these costs into the total shoe budget!)
  8. If you're feeling really brave, ask the craft store experts for a metallic paint recommendation for shoes. Armed with the info they provide, choose a plain, inexpensive leather, pleather, patent leather, or satin pump (that you won't mind using as your test subject if the experiment goes awry!) in any color, and use the metallic paint to spray those suckers to a mirror finish! If you do this, I wanna see pics, or it didn't happen.

Lisa's Bonus Pro Tip: Zappos.com has amazing search options, from color and style to size and width - and an incredible selection. Sign up for their VIP status and receive *FREE* *NEXT-DAY* shipping both ways. That's not an excuse to procrastinate, though, y'all. Get your shoes in time for a few days of breaking 'em in - or check out the ice technique for a super-fast break-in - just be careful to break the ice out once it's frozen, and take care not to use this technique with shoes that could be ruined by a little moisture from the freezing/thawing process.

Brigid, did you survive the gold shoe hunt? I sure hope so! Let me know what you think in the comments below.
