Black Bridesmaid Dresses for Modern Bridal Parties

LBDs are just about the greatest thing in the world, right? We all have one that flatters our bodies and makes us feel amazing. So why wouldn't you let your favorite gal pals wear one on your big day? Whether you want a sophisticated, elegant group of bridesmaids or a bridal party with a serious rock 'n' roll edge, a black dress could be just the ticket!

For a classic look, find a simple lace sheath with a great silhouette. Above, this black cocktail dress is the perfect length to flatter petite bridesmaids. For taller bridesmaids, a just above the knee or at-knee length will flatter their longer gams.

If you want your black bridesmaid dresses to be modern and less traditional, find ones with interesting details like sheer paneling and embroidered patterns. The dress above with its chic design and 3/4 length sleeves would be ideal for a late fall wedding.

Whether your wedding is very glam or you are in a fun, splashy destination, you're going to want a LBD with a little drama. This blouson bodice combined with sequined mini (above) is a fun dress that would be terrific for a Vegas wedding. Below, this basic silhouette with boatneck and gorgeous bell sleeves would be an excellent choice for an elegant retro wedding (it's pretty much late '60s perfection).

If your ladies want a dress with a punch of va-va-voom (because of the seriously attractive contingent of groomsmen), you can have a dress that is both sultry and sophisticated. This strapless peplum dress below has enough structure to not be too over-the-top, and is still a stunner of a dress.

If you are having a beach wedding, a gaggle of bridesmaids in LBDs might seem out of place. Instead opt for black lace dresses with a nude lining. They will seem more casual and relaxed, especially with a more flowing silhouette and spaghetti straps.

If you are in love with a silhouette that might not be the most flattering, black can be a forgiving way to go. This drop waist dress below is really pretty, but not something that's going to be as generous in lighter shades. Have your bridesmaids try it on in black to see if it works on everyone.

One of the biggest trends in bridesmaid dresses lately are those with intricate beadwork (we've seen them in everything from Art Deco to boho weddings). This slip dress with beaded overlay is cool and edgy, and just right for an urban loft or ballroom wedding (because that skirt should be nowhere near an ocean breeze).

One of our favorite features on a classic LBD for us is an interesting back. What seems so Plain Jane from the front can instantly become our favorite date dress in our closet.

This halter neckline with bow (above) is totally timeless. Meanwhile, for a more demure look, this little keyhole and capelet effect is precious.

From the front, this dress below is a basic black sheath, but what sold us was its sheer lace back with scalloped keyholes.
