Travel & Honeymoon inspiration in Miami Beach

via

It's long been an ambition of mine to holiday in America. Anywhere will do, if I'm totally honest, but after putting together today's post I have to say that Miami is creeping to the top of the list. Especially since my husband has already there, prior to us meeting - I mean, as if he'd get away with going somewhere so glamorous without me in tow these days!

Today's tour is courtesy of the wonderful Kate Nielen, who has such a lovely, personal connection with Miami which shines through in all of her beautiful images. Sit back, relax and get planning that Summer holiday now!

Name: Kate Nielen
Current Title + Company: Photographer at Kate Nielen Photography
Where you live: London, UK

Destination: Miami

How long does it take to get there? It's a longish flight - approx 8 hours.

What made you pick the destination? On the personal note, I studied at the University of Miami so have a great sentiment for this vibrant city. It was lovely to visit the city, show my family around and catch up with old friends. Miami is a fantastic destination for an alternative city break and also a base to explore South Florida and beyond.

Where did you stay? Pelican Stay at Mote Carlo - Miami Beach. Fantastic, luxury apartments with their own pool and private beach access.

What would you recommend to do (any special/unique points of interest, restaurants, activities etc?) The walk along the Ocean Drive is a classic. The famous News Cafe - Miami's first coffee shop and a fab social hangout is not to be missed. And, of course, the South Beach is must.

Tell us about the culture & food. Miami is cosmopolitan with a big Cuban influence to be seen everywhere. The verity of fresh fruit, fish and cocktails is absolutely amazing and almost Caribbean in the general feel.

How easy is it to get around? Do you need a car? Well, yes and no. If you want to stay just in South Beach that the car is not necessary. If you'd like to explore the wonders beyond than it's a must as public transport is not great and taxis will be more than car rental.

What would be your top packing tips? Bikini and sunglasses. It's hot, hot, hot!

Would you visit again? Absolutely. Any time.
