Bride Denise always dreamed of wearing a vintage wedding dress and she was lucky enough to find an original 1940s dress which was just perfect for her in Elizabeth Avey.

A vintage theme then followed for Denise and Emmet's summer wedding. Incorporating vintage china, sweet bunting and vintage style bridesmaid dresses.

They had a big family knees up with a Jukebox, band and table tennis to entertain.

THE PROPOSAL | It happened while we were on holiday in Gozo in September 2013. Emmet proposed with a joke ring that had a plastic cake on top - thankfully this was a temporary ring! My actual ring is an art deco one from Gray's Antiques in London.

THE VISION | We hoped for a relaxed and social day where everyone could mix. Rather than a large function room we loved the idea of hiring a house with lots of smaller rooms, each with a different purpose so you could have a lively dance or head into a quieter room for a chat...

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We spent 7 months planning the wedding, which was plenty of time - I was so ready for the day by the time it came around. I did a lot of the visual planning and Emmet did more of the practical planning like coaches and cars!

BUDGET | We spent quite a lot on what we deemed the most important things like venue, food, photographer! And we saved money on things like centrepieces by buying plants from the local garden centre for £1.50 each and wrapping them in hessian.

THE VENUE | Anstey Hall, Trumpington, Cambridge. We both love old buildings - Anstey Hall has so much character and none of it is for show. All the furniture, books and pieces in the house are genuine treasured pieces and it feels so homely. Another thing we loved about the venue is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. There is a table football table downstairs, a large chessboard in the garden and a pinball machine in the bar!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress is a 1940s vintage from Elizabeth Avey in Holloway. I had it tailored at Image in Finsbury Park who did an amazing job on such a delicate dress. They kept the style the same but just updated the shape and created a beautiful sash to complement it. It was so light and comfortable, I didn't want to take it off at the end of the day!

FINDING THE DRESS | I always dreamed of getting a vintage dress. I loved the idea that someone would have worn and loved it before me, as a wedding dress is such a special item of clothing! As soon as I tried this dress on I loved it and bought it there and then (you also have to make quick decisions with vintage!)

GROOM'S ATTIRE | M&S suit and shoes! Emmet's favourite place for suits.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Our service was in St Joseph's church in Bishops Stortford. I'm a freelancer graphic designer and one of my clients, Marianne Tyler Brown, is a classical musician so I asked her to play at our wedding. She plays the cello - it sounded so beautiful in the church especially when she played Pachelbel's Canon as I was walking down the aisle.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Three of my school friends; Catherine, Clare and Jo. I liked the idea of the girls having different dresses and we ended up with the same dress in different colours from BHS of all places... I bought a floral one and two pink ones and dyed one of the pink ones grey!

THE FLOWERS | We didn't have a colour scheme as such but had a lot of muted tones, greys and pinks, so wanted the flowers to reflect this. My mum's favourite flowers are freesias so that was an easy choice, mixed with baby's breath and roses.

THE CAKE | We had a three-tiered cake. My aunty Mary in Ireland made the fruitcake base tier and Emmet's aunty had the other two tiers made (vanilla and chocolate) and had it all decorated. Again it brings in the muted greys and pinks.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Matt Ethan. I love reportage photography so when I saw Matt's work it was an easy choice. It was an absolute pleasure to have Matt there on the day - he was so relaxed and made everyone feel so at ease.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Due to my love of all things vintage we hired tea cups, bunting and table cloths from Dolly's Vintage Tea Party which were gorgeous! The bunting was handmade by Hayley who owns the company and was made from hessian and lace so happened to match well with my dress and the hessian centrepieces.

Our band were a duo called Belle and the Busker and they were absolutely fantastic! The main hall was where the dancing took place and it was small enough that the dance floor never felt empty and had such a fun vibe thanks to our amazing guests. We also hired a 50s style jukebox which looked great in the main hall, again adding to my vintage theme!

Another one of my purchases was a table tennis table which we set up outside the on the patio. There was torrential rain in the morning, which cleared up by the time we got back from the church and I was so grateful mainly because it meant the table tennis could be used!

THE HONEYMOON | We had a minimoon straight after the wedding in Norfolk - we just rented a cottage for a few days and did nothing! Unwinding from it all and taking it all in.

Our main honeymoon was 6 weeks later in Bali and Dubai. Two weeks relaxing in Bali and 4 nights in Dubai where a couple of friends joined us for a few days. It was amazing, best holiday ever!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | A memorable moment for both of us was seeing each other for the first time in the church. It was a lovely moment and any nervousness completely disappeared.

I have a huge Irish family (60 first cousins!) so it was amazing to see both sides of my family mixing. And generally seeing all of our friends and family in one place mixing with each other, it's something that we'll never forget.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Don't be 'on duty' all day, just relax and have fun.

Take time out with your new hubby/wife at some point, even for a short walk.

Try not to stress! Remember the point of the day is to marry the person you love with your family and friends by your side, so try not to get too bogged down or stressed out by small details.
