Colourful Punk, Rockabilly and 1960s Wedding in Ireland

If you've been reading Rock n Roll Bride for a while you'll already know that I love me a colourful wedding. I just can't resist them, hence why I feature them so often! Danny and Laura's 60s inspired celebration took place at Fort Dunree, in Co. Donegal, Ireland. The abandoned vibe of the place made it a really unique and private setting.

"We met when going to punk gigs and through mutual friends", explained the bride, "so our theme was kind of a punk rock day by the sea! We didn't want it to be overly themed but we do like 1960s styling and pops of bright colour so there was lots of that. Beyond that, we just had loads of great elements: An amazing location by the sea, a merry band of punks, skins and rockabillies, bring your own booze and a few pink flamingos thrown in for good measure!"

"The ceremony was outdoors overlooking the ocean, and set quite far away from any buildings", she continued. "In order to have music, we brought our record player and borrowed a wee petrol generator. It was all going grand. Then, just as we began walking down the aisle, the petrol ran out and the music stopped! The best man tried three times to get it going but to no avail! In the end, my brother (who by happy coincidence enjoys running marathons) had to leg it back to the main building to get the jerry can of petrol. So, after a few false starts, we finally got down the aisle. It got a big roar off the crowd anyway! That still makes us laugh."

"Also, we had helium balloons spelling out "RIOT" as a tribute to a very dear friend. Our friend Colin, singer of Oi band 'Runnin' Riot' passed away just a few weeks before the wedding. We wanted to create a special tribute for him. I know a lot of people there on the day were missing him a lot. Then the day after the wedding, four of us took them outside and released them out to the North Atlantic wind. It was a special moment - like he just floated away to heaven."

"The whole wedding was one big DIY project!" she said. "I run events for a living so I did the organising. Danny designed the stationery and our guestbook poster. My brother, John, is a chef and did all the catering with help from a few cheffy pals. Danny's twin brother, Johnny, was the best man but also the guitarist of our wedding band, the Slick Hicks (killer rockabilly from Dublin). A ton of our friends DJed on the night and the decks were on loan from Bofs and the Bad Samaritans Scooter Club."

"Our friend and seamstress-extraordinaire, Louise of Lunarstitch, made all the table runners. Marta (bridesmaid) made all the favours. My mum's best pal, Clare, made our wedding cakes. Jay's (bridesmaid) mum did the flowers. And beyond that, we had so many friends mucking in to help us make and hang decorations, move furniture, clear plates and help us out in every which way!"

The most magical moment for this couple was the ceremony though. "I loved walking down the hill to the helipad with one of my favourite songs playing and just feeling the love from everyone there", Laura concluded. "It was just lovely to kiss my dad and see Danny standing there all handsome."
