Classic Elegance, A Beautiful Flower-Filled English Wedding

Classic Elegance, A Beautiful Flower-Filled English Wedding

It's a nice day, for a white wedding.

And Charlotte and Oliver's white country house wedding in Somerset, England, was extra nice!

Captured by the fabulous Ria Mishall Photography, it was a classic yet cool wedding day, filled with elegant details and a few quirky touches too.

With Charlotte in a statement ballgown, the bridesmaids all in white, and the gents looking jaunty and dapper in their tails, this Babington House wedding was every inch the English countryside affair.

Abundant and organic white blooms with touches of foliage, pale blue details, and tall candlesticks gave a chic finish, while in-keeping with the grand setting.

But add in a killer band, fun family style dining, ales on tap and a great British rom-com playing in the background and you have the makings of one memorable wedding in the country.

As Charlotte says, "It's a big deal!" And we're rather inclined to agree...

Our Wedding Day

I couldn't stop smiling all day- I used to think it was corny when people said it's the best day of your life and turns out they were right!

In three words? Classic, romantic, heavenly.

The Inspiration

A weekend in the country echoing Agatha Christie; intimate garden parties, Pimms, Champagne, board games minus the murder though of course... and with a classic romantic twist. We picked the venue first and let that inspire us; fresh modern, white, green and powder blue...I didn't want the theme to be too prominent, echoing a birthday party or fancy dress - I wanted it very much to feel like a wedding - it's a big deal!

The Flowers

The bridal bouquet was a loose, natural, relaxed trailing bouquet, filled with white 'black eyed' anemones, majolica spray roses, white hydrangea, ivory astrantia, white Nigella, white Veronica, 'Patience' David Austin roses, white lisianthus, trailing jasmine, 'Dusty Miller' and other loose wispy foliage to give a handpicked feel tied with twine. For the buttonholes, the groom has a single white rose, and the u shers and groom's father all to had a powder blue hydrangea florets buttonhole, with a sprig of white heather, silver 'begonia' leaves and wild herbs. At first I grumbled at my groom for insisting on morning suits for everyone, including the guests... but once everyone had sorted out jacket hire, if required, it added such a sense of occasion and everyone said they felt so dapper and a real part of it... the pictures look amazing! All the buttonholes were finished with twine.

The Attire

Ria Mishaal is an exceptional photographer - from her polite, relaxed manner to her brilliance, capturing the best and most flattering of moments.

It all got so expensive the little things add up! We found the best and cheapest idea was a mini meringue from Meringue Girls, with each person's name baked into it - so name tags and favours in one! We also lost the menu as felt was a waste of money and as we were serving three dishes family style for all three courses and instead added a personalised 'belly band" to the napkins a nod to the a grander original idea I'd had, of giving everyone a vintage baby blue penguin book.....alas, next time maybe!

The Decor & Details

Whilst guests gathered in the bar with the groom and groomsmen, we had Four Weddings and a Funeral silently playing on any available screen! The night before the big day, we had a hog roast in te walled garden at Babington House... We chose wedding day keys of ale, Champagne and family-style dining to offer guests choice and variety and to ensure everyone ate at the same time.

Give yourself a good year to 18 months to plan and steadily do things through out that time. There will always be a last-minute rush, but you can try to prepare yourselves. In the beginning I got all excited about all the crafty novelties, but in the end only one or two things made it as every penny was better spent on what really makes a good day - is food, wine, music - your dress! And making sure the people you want there can make it. Oh and brides, don't spend crazy money on your shoes unless you see them - I nearly fell into that trap and instead, found a beautiful sparkly pair from Kate Spade - they weren't cheap, but less than Louboutins - you won't wear them again, no matter what you think! I hired my day time head-dress, even though is was made from vintage pieces bespoke for me...an amazing company in Putney, London called Tantrums and Tiaras - Be cause let's face it, you ain't gonna wear it again! I did however purchase my evening sparkly headband that I could wear again, as it's more of a fashion piece - and a beautiful keepsake. Try not to argue too much and don't listen to anyone, have the wedding you want - spend the money on things that matter most to you - for me that was the setting, music and invites... and don't forget to enjoy it! Try not to be a stressy bride and stay relativity sober so you can remember every detail - oh and make sure you have a small exchange with every guest!

Advice for Other Couples

We had a traditional church organ music for the ceremony, followed by Miss Cherry Bomb, a vintage singer, who played at our Champagne reception. Then Blue Harlem, an incredible five-piece swing band, played late into the night at the evening reception.

My husband and I sneaked into the darkness of the night and stood back to take it all in....awesomeness.

The Music

Favourite Moment

Isn't it beautiful, I just love how the atmosphere jumps out of the photographs, white blooms and tall candelabras are such a striking, beautiful combination.
