Oh my. This is one real wedding y'all will remember! Bright colors, gold candelabra, tequila sipping, Spanish lace, margaritas, bougainvillea, horse stables, sausage paella, gold milagros, sangria, flamenco music. Just some of what was involved in this epic real wedding by Ace & Whim. We love the Spanish influence in this wedding decor but most of all we love how this bride was influenced by Frida Kahlo...

From the bride: " Mikey and I were first set up because we both loved to throw parties, and we were both bold and outgoing. It's always been important to us to bring people together and show those we love a good time. For our engagement, Mikey surprised me by renting out the Lincoln Park Conservatory and throwing a cocktail party. For our save the date, we wanted people to be a part of our story, and created a video that told all about us and why we love each other. When we started planning our wedding, we knew we wanted to throw a weekend- long party that was an experience and made lasting memories. We live in Chicago, but I grew up in the southwest, where we visited often, and we loved the idea of party with bright bold colors, spicy flavors, hot weather, and a sassy dance party."

We threw our rehearsal dinner at a Native American Nature Preserve in Tucson, where we could highlight native Southwest culture and dine on a menu of native foods, like prickly pear trifle. On Saturday morning, we invited all our guests to join us for breakfast and our favorite Tucson hike in Pima Canyon. Saturday evening, my parents hosted a giant pre-wedding fiesta with Elote, pinatas, Sonoran dogs (a Tucson tradition) and a live Mariachi band. We got to spend the whole day enjoying all our friends and family that travelled to celebrate with us, and to share our love for all the eclectic vibes of Arizona. On Sunday, we had our wedding at a local Spanish Riding Club, an elegant throwback estate to the days when Arizona and California were Spanish colonies ruled by Dons in their Haciendas . The weekend culminated in the most important part- the commitment we were making to each other and our gratitude for our friends and family. We wanted our favorite people to feel like we had invited them over for an elegant dinner party at our Equestrian estate- private, classic, and steeped in local culture- gold candelabras, moutain views, vintage spanish lace, a flamenco guitar fusion band. Our ceremony took place in the mesquite grove on the property, where we celebrated our faith and our commitment to each other. I walked down the aisle to "Here comes the Sun" by the Beatles, played by Spanish guitar and violin. Mikey led the groomsmen to "Don't Stop" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Our puppy Mason was ring bearer and came down the aisle carried in a giant sombrero. Mikey and my daddy cried as I walked down the aisle; Mikey and I laughed at the inside jokes in our vows. Our favorite part of the ceremony was taking communion and worshiping with our guests. We had cocktail hour in the stable portico, where jalapeño margaritas, spiced mango, a guacamole cart, and a live burro named Bunny entertained guests until we surprised them with our first dance- a Pasadoble inspired by Spanish bull fighting. For dinner, we went through the Hacienda to the pool loggia, an open courtyard where the sunset came through. Tables were named for Spanish race tracks, and guests dined on paella, steak chimichurri, and sangria. After a champagne tower and toasts, we had a hot dance party with a live band in the front courtyard and invited our guests to learn about tequila and have cigars rolled. I have long admired Frida Kahlo, a Mexican folk artist renown for her feminism and self portraits, and wanted her to be a part- from the Frida lounge with her artwork to the gold Milagros on escort cards, the color scheme of red and fuschia with pops of turquoise, and the bright lips and flowers in everyone's hair, we wanted a bold and fun party that showcased the vibrance of the Southwest. I made all our signage using and Old world style crest we had made with our names, and will continue to use for our new family. Each of our vendors was more fabulous than the last and really caught on to our bold and fun vision. From the mexican wedding cookies and empanadas served with our cake to the bougainvillea cascading from trees in the mesquite grove, they created a unique experience that made our day special. More than that, the support and love of our family and friends, vivid as the bold colors on our wedding day, has encouraged and ignited us for a marriage even more spicy and fun than our Southwest fest.
