Alex and Erin's Joyful Portland, OR Wedding by Powers Photography Studios

It's always hardest to edit a real wedding when you know the bride. Erin works for Powers Photography Studios, so we are often emailing back and forth about real weddings, and as we are both residents of Portland, exchanging thoughts on rainy days and overly hot summers (we Northwesterners can be a fickle bunch). So, when it came time to publish her gorgeous wedding, culling the photos down to my very favorites was no easy task (you'll notice this post is a little longer than most-I did the best I could). I love Erin and Alex's attention to the "fun" details, whether it be champagne on the double decker bus they rented or understanding that your bridal bouquet can, in fact, double as a microphone. Thank you to Powers Photography for sharing! And congrats, Erin!

We'd love to hear about the vision for your wedding! Did your wedding location hold a specific significance to you? What was the most meaningful part of your day? Did anything funny or out of the ordinary happen? Tell us details of the events surrounding the wedding as well. How did you know your partner was "the one"? Any advice you'd give new brides who are just getting started? Vendors:

We really wanted our wedding to be a reflection of not only our relationship, but of our families, as well-so we focused on keeping the day classic, elegant, and traditional. We really wanted every one of our guests to feel included in the celebration, and have fun!

We tried to incorporate personal touches throughout the whole wedding planning process. Alex designed our logo that was used on the save the dates, invites, on the cake, website, and photobooth strips! The logo is a combination of our initials in an infinity symbol, and the diagonal lines in the circle represent the earth's axis on summer solstice - our wedding day! On the wedding day, we both wore a few personal items. Alex's ring was made of gold from both his grandparents' and parents' rings. I wore my great-grandma's earrings and mother-in-law's bracelet. I also had a handkerchief that was actually the bonnet Alex wore home from his baptism as a baby that wrapped around my bouquet!

Yes, specifically the ceremony at The Madeleine Church. Alex's Mom is the principal of the school there and his siblings' weddings have taken place there, so we continued the tradition!

The vows. We were very excited for the entire wedding day, but we knew the whole reason for the wedding was the actual saying of the vows and the start of our marriage.

Well...nothing out of the ordinary for our group of friends and family! Lots of silliness on the double decker bus dancing to jams, as well as later on the dance floor. We are very lucky to have an energetic and fun group of friends-they made the day great! One specifically funny part of the day for the girls was when one of the flower girls busted out the ENTIRE song "Let it go" while we were doing hair and makeup. And I mean she sang every. last. word. Had all of us cracking up!

We were so lucky to have our bridal party start the celebration the Wednesday before the wedding. We had our bachelor/bachelorette parties that day. We did separate events during the day with our bridal parties, but ended the night at a bar where significant others and more friends joined in. It was a great way for everyone to get to know one another and kick off the festivities. We also had a great BBQ at my parents' house on Thursday for anyone traveling and a fantastic rehearsal dinner on Friday at Kells. It really was an amazing week of festivities!

We could both write out lists of the qualities we love in each other but it truly boils down to something that can't be put into words. We're best friends and have known for a very long time that we were meant to be husband and wife.

A few things:

First: Have fun! Planning can get stressful quickly. Remind yourself this is only happening once in your life, and soak it all up! We made a point to celebrate each big decision for the wedding with some champagne or a fun date to acknowledge our progress.

Second: Hire professionals. We made sure to hire people we were confident in, who returned our emails and made planning easy so we could relax and enjoy the whole week.

And finally: It's really important to step away from the frills of planning the wedding and focus on the start of your marriage.
