Romantic Woodland Engagement Shoot | Bridal Musings

via

Erin and Austin's engagement shoot is all kinds of adorable (and we thought that before we even read their back story and proposal!).

This couple have been through a lot together, and after getting engaged in the breath-taking Silver Creek Falls State Park in Oregon, they decided to return to the scene of the crime for their engagement session.

And we're so glad they did.

Photographed by the wonderful Terra Rothman Photography, this shoot is filled with candid moments, romantic portraits, and an ever-so-slight mishap, with a bottle of bubbly...

How We Met

In 2011, Austin lived in Florida and Erin lived in Oklahoma... but they had one thing in common, The Smiths! Erika Smith is Erin's sister and JC Smith is Austin's best friend. And during a visit to Florida, their meeting sparked a friendship! A text message led to a phone call which then led to a Skype chat. After months of "just friends" conversations they finally admitted they liked each other and decided to make it official in August 2011. Both Erin and Austin were in their final years of school with busy personal lives, but that didn't stop them. They would talk, study, do chores, read books and watch movies together on Skype. Over 6 months went by before Austin was introduced to Erin's son, Roman, which was through a Skype conversation. The two of them also started to form a relationship which has grown to something really special today! Austin graduated in May 2012 and got a job and moved to Oregon. Erin finished her degree in December of 2012 and moved to Oregon the very next month. The love and relationship continued to grow and in October 2013 Austin asked Erin to be his wife! Thousands of miles and a year and a half long-distance relationship only made them work harder for what they knew they had in each other! They are excited to spend forever with each other! January 2013 they were FINALLY together!!!! It was Austin's birthday weekend and Erin wanted to plan a fun activity for the family (Roman, Erin's Dad, Austin & Erin). Austin had previously mentioned he would like to go hiking at Silver Falls. Erin didn't think anything of it because she knew how much Austin loved the outdoors. So they packed up and drove to Silver Falls which is located at the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Once they got there, they do what they always do with a four year old, they make a potty break. Erin and Roman used the restrooms and when they came out Austin was no where to be found. Eric, Erin's dad, said he went ahead of them to look at the falls. Since Erin didn't know her way around the state park and her dad did, she was relying on his navigation skills to get them caught back up with Austin on the trails. After 5 minutes of her dad pretending to forget the directions and leading them around the lodge in the wrong direction (he was stalling), she started to wonder what was going on. Finally, they could see Austin standing along the ledge at the very top of the falls. He had an ipad with headphones set up on the stone barrier. Then he smiled, turned around, and started walking down the trail to the bottom of the falls. Erin said "wait, where are you going?" and Eric said "Erin, put the headphones on." She put the headphones on and looked at the display which read "To Erin, just press play" and she did. Her dad directed her to keep walking down the trail that led to the waterfall and watch the video at the same time. The video, which was beautifully put together with pictures and music, described the journey of their relationship and the love they shared with each other and with Roman. As Erin started to reach the bottom of the trail and the video was coming to an end, Austin's narrating voice in the video said "and now I have a question for you, look up." And she did! Austin was waiting for her behind the waterfall with a big smile on his face. By this time she was crying and ran to him to hug him. Roman came to stand next to her and Austin got down on one knee. He asked her to marry him and she said YES!
