Sweet Coral Flower Filled DIY Wedding at Goosedale Nottingham | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

WWW readers Cara and John tied the knot on Saturday 10 th August 2013 at Goosedale, Nottinghamshire. With a vision of an informal and fun day they injected so much of their personality into their nuptials.

They crafted much of their pretty décor themselves, from the centrepieces to the stationery and bunting. I so love the vibrant pops of coral which ran through their day, with the bridesmaids in maxi dresses and dreamy coordinating blooms.

Cara looked so very elegant in lace with a fresh flower crown, John donned a grey suit with coral tie and there were the sweetest little ones.

Thanks goes to the brilliant Jon Cripwell for sharing his photographs today.

THE PROPOSAL | John proposed at our home in Nottingham in front of the Christmas tree just before Christmas 2011 and I was defiantly not expecting it!

THE VISION |Our vision was to have an informal, fun celebration of our love filled with all the people and things that make us happy.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | I started planning the night John proposed! John mainly left it to me but we both decided on the things that were most important to us. We knew we wanted our wedding to be truly personal to us which meant we had a lot of D.I.Y aspects to the day we made our centrepieces, save the dates, invitations, table plan, order of the day, bunting and John's mum even made our amazing wedding cake and cake toppers!

THE VENUE | We chose Goosedale for it's beautiful countryside location. (I had originally said I wouldn't change the date of the wedding unless the venue is the perfect one for us! We had first set the date for the day we became officially a couple which was the 6 th June 2008!) We also wanted to have a lake nearby and Goosedale had it all.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was from Lori G bridal studio in Derby it was ivory and lace, My shoes were white converse both my dress and shoes were my something new, I wore my Tiffany necklace John had given to me for our first Christmas as a couple which was my something old, and I had my Nanny's blue brooch attached to the dress which my Auntie let me borrow this was my something borrowed and blue. I wore a flower crown in my hair. The Dress even managed to fit me when I was 3 ½ months pregnant on our wedding day!

FINDING THE DRESS | Well let's just say the dress I got married in was not my first dress! My first dress was a princess dress and although beautiful when I tried it on at a fitting I stood in the mirror and burst into tears it just wasn't me! I soon realised what I wanted and the wonderful ladies at Lori G had such an amazing range of dresses to choose from.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | John wore a grey suit with a waistcoat, white shirt and coral tie and the grooms men wore the same minus the waistcoat. The page boys wore grey waist coats and shorts from Vertbaudet with converse.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We had one reading during the ceremony which was read by my sister it was a short story "Love Monkey" by Edward Monkton. As music is something we both love our songs were ones that were special to us. I walked down the aisle to "Sea of Love"- Cat Powers, We signed the register to " Special Brew"- Bad Manners and left the ceremony to "Signed Sealed Delivered"- Stevie Wonder. Our first dance was to "Better Together"- Jack Johnson. In the evening we had an amazing Motown/Soul band - Big Macs Wholly Soul Band as John and I and our family and friends all love the music

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My lovely bridesmaids all wore coral maxi dresses which I had trouble finding at the time but were such an amazing buy from Amazon in the end. The flower girl wore a monsoon dress converse and a flower crown

THE FLOWERS | I love flowers! Although the same can't be said for my wedding flowers which were made of the two types of flowers I specifically didn't want (roses and carnations ) after being momentarily upset I realised it really didn't matter at all and they were still pretty!

THE CAKE | Our gorgeous naked cake was made by John's very talented mum who also made our cake topper which included our dog Bronson!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographer was Jon Cripwell and he is truly amazing! We met Jon before we chose him for the day and as soon as we met him we knew he was the best person for us. Our wedding photos really are beautiful, a perfect collection of memories we can treasure forever, everyone commented on how great he was. We also had engagement pictures before the wedding with Jon which defiantly helped us all get to know each other and cured a very camera shy groom to be! We are even having one year on photos near our anniversary which will now include our baby girl Elsie Aurora! I couldn't sing his praises any higher!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I'm not sure what word would sum up our décor it was just exactly what we wanted. We had lots of bunting hanging outside and jam jars filled with flowers but it was so beautiful surrounded by fields and views of the fishing lake outside we didn't have to do anything else. Inside our chair covers were white and sashes were hessian and lace with pearl brooches provided by the wonderful Maria at Changing Chairs. We made our own table plan using hessian and doilies! Our centrepieces were white birdcages filled with gypsophila and a large pillar candle. Each table was named after a different motown /soul artist and the names were on old vinyl records. The place name holders were mini heart trees that I found on Etsy. We had a sweet cart which we did up after buying it from a florist that was closing down filled with everyone's favourite sweets and housing our guest book which I adore and is made by the talented TotallySalinda.

THE HONEYMOON | Our honeymoon was in Leycroft Valley, Perranporth, Cornwall courtesy of my awesome parents! We stayed in a tree house lodge which had it's own hot tub and we got to be surrounded by natures beauty every day.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole day was amazing but some of our favourites were going off in the gorgeous Sybil the VW campervan for quiet photos away from everyone for a short while. The moment the ice cream van arrived and you could hear it playing it's music We'd never seen some of our guests so excited! Having our first dance together and as our song finished the brass section of the band started to enter the room from different directions the look of surprise on people's faces was awesome and the dance floor stayed full! Slowing noticing half our guests were wondering around wearing tails all night! For me (Cara) was John running back in from the bar to dance with me when he heard the band play "My Girl". For the groom (John) Waiting for Cara to walk down the aisle and the speeches, (the best man even made a deal or no deal box).

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | If you have friends or family who you are talented enough to do things ask them first before spending money on things you don't need to. Make time for each other! The day goes by so quickly it would be easy to hardly see each other at all. Do it your way! The day is all about celebrating your love so fill it with people and things that make YOU happy.
