Tips and Facts: White and Ivory Wedding Shoes

via

One of the most common questions that brides ask themselves is whether they should go with white wedding shoes or an ivory pair instead. The good news is that, no matter what color you choose, there will be plenty of stylish options to choose from, including everything from flats to the highest stiletto heels. But if you're at a loss for which color would really be right for your wedding, continue reading for some tips that will clear up this issue for you.

Go with the Color of Your Dress

Your shoes should match, or at least come close to matching, the color of your dress. Many brides do, indeed, get away with wearing ivory wedding shoes with a white dress, though, as this provides that little bit of contrast that keeps things interesting. Besides, the shoes aren't all that visible under a floor-length gown anyhow. However, if you really want to keep things uniform, determine whether you want to wear an ivory gown or a white gown. To make the best choice, try on dresses of both colors and determine which shade complements your skin tone best. Then purchase shoes that match the gown. If you purchase your shoes first, you'll have to do the opposite and then find the gown that works with the shoes. This, however, works fine for many brides because they're able to try on their dress and have it altered to the height that they are with their heels on.

Unless you're purposely going for a bright bit of color on your wedding shoes, stick with a shade like ivory, which, again, matches close enough to white but don't take away any attention from your dress.

So if you're searching for the best pair of wedding shoes and all you can find is ivory but you have a white dress, rest assured that a good rule to follow is for your shoes to either match the color of your dress or at least be a little bit darker. On the other hand, if you have an ivory dress, you should avoid white shoes, which will be a stark contrast to the ivory gown and may look awkwardly bright and out of place.
