Just before Christmas I was invited to join Jay Archer's 'Crafternoon Tea'. As a huge fan of Jay's loose & organic floral designs, naturally I leapt at the chance to learn some tips and create my own arrangement under her expert guidance. More than just a workshop, the Crafternoon Tea is an opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about the art of flower arranging with a group of like-minded creative friends, with tea served by A Cup of Vintage in a beautiful venue. This time, it was held at historic Fetcham Park, a personal favourite of mine with it's grand Grade II listed interiors, and warm, homely atmosphere.

I brought along Maxeen from Maxeen Kim Photography to capture the action, and some of the beautiful arrangements created by Jay, and my own efforts! After a friendly welcome over a cup of tea we settled at our benches in the glamorous Salon, with it's painted ceilings, gold gilded panelling and crystal chandelier, for the first of Jay's demonstrations creating a festive centrepiece arrangement. With the most colourful array of locally grown, seasonal and beautifully scented flowers, foliage, succulents, seed pods and dried fruit laid out, Jay's resulting piece combined rich red ranunculus and brightly coloured anemones with fresh green moss, foliage and eucalyptus for a wonderful scent. For the second demonstration, Jay showed us how to create a festive wreath, using a wire frame, moss and wire, decorated with lush green foliage, dried limes and cinnamon for scent with silvery-green succulents for a contemporary twist.

With our minds buzzing with creative designs, we retreated to the beautiful Shell Room for a delicious cream tea in surely the most glamorous setting! Chatting with my fellow attendees I met green-fingered mums, creative graduates, brides-to be and other wedding industry professionals all looking to learn something new, and create something pretty to take home too!

Filled with tea and cake, we made our way back to the Salon for the fun part - creating our own arrangements! I chose to make a rustic, natural wreath for my festive front door, combining base of Spanish Moss with pinecones, birch twigs and succulent details. After being a little overwhelmed by the demonstration, I was pleasantly surprised that the technical process was actually quite straightforward, with just a creative eye required for the placing of all the lovely details.

It was a really fun afternoon, and a must for any bride thinking about creating their own wedding flowers! Jay runs regular Crafternoon Tea sessions with new dates coming soon, or for a more personalised option you can book a private session. Perhaps treat your mum and mother-in-law to-be or bridesmaids, before roping them in to creating your perfect table arrangements for the big day!
