Sweet Intimate Autumn City Wedding in Edinburgh with a Candy Anthony Dress | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

WWW readers Catie and Mark had a beautiful Autumnal wedding in October of last year.

They wanted a personal and intimate day, with 29 guests. They didn't stick to tradition and spent the night before the wedding together and arrived at their humanist ceremony together. They instead focused on great food and drink, which included whisky tasting in the evening at their venue; The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, Edinburgh. I just love the autumnal blooms and berries and the flap jack favours.

Catie has one of my favourite bridal looks ever, a pretty Candy Anthony dress which she wore with a pale pink cardigan, while Mark looked handsome in a custom made blue suit with orange tie.

Thanks so much to Malin Widstrand for sharing her wonderful images with us today.

We were on holiday in London, and had gone to one of our favourite places - Greenwich. We had walked up to the Observatory, enjoying the fabulous views over the city. We then went for a lovely walk through Greenwich Park, and sat on a bench to enjoy looking at all of the beautiful autumn colours. We were sitting minding our own business when a lady appeared, being chased by a policeman. She then started shouting racist abuse at Mark. We were obviously really upset about it, and I was trying to persuade him to go and tell the policeman what had happened. Mark kept saying just to ignore it - I thought that this was very out of character (as anyone who knows Mark would agree!).

A little while later, to my complete surprise, Mark popped the question. He had had it all planned - a lovely romantic walk in one of our favourite places. He had not wanted to let the horrible woman get in the way of his plans, and went ahead and asked me. Some people might think that this is not a romantic story, but I would say that it definitely is! I think it illustrates an important thing about love. You should not let other people's opinions get in your way - what really matters is you as a couple. Also, it was certainly very memorable, and will be an interesting story to tell the grandchildren!!

As an icebreaker, we made up pass the parcel games for the tables. In each layer there was a question that would allow the guests to get to know each other better, and have a bit of fun. The prize at the end of the parcel was a pack of balloon animals. This caused a lot of hilarity, and became pretty competitive as we gave a prize for the best one. We also love quizzes, so we incorporated a quiz into the evening, with a prize for the winner as well.

We both love whisky and, given that the wedding was held at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, we decided to have a whisky tasting in the evening. Even those who don't like whisky enjoyed learning a bit more about it, and having a sniff of the different drams. Judging by all of the empty glasses, the whisky went down very well with those who tried it!

Advice for Other Couples... Don't worry about sticking to the wedding rules or traditions if you don't want to - do things in whatever way is right for you. Have confidence in your ideas, and don't stress about the small stuff. Keep in mind what the day is about - a celebration of your love, and the start of a new chapter together. What really matters is your marriage, rather than the wedding day. The best piece of advice I was given was to put more time into planning the ceremony and thinking about what marriage means to you both, and less time planning the details of the day itself.
