We’re really excited this week as we finally get to share our Amelie inspired styled bridal shoot! The seed for the project was planted with this post last year, and our idea was to re-create the love story between Amelie and her love interest Nino from the film Amelie (“Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amelie Poulain”). We wanted Amelie to have the wedding she would have had: quirky, colorful, whimsical and fun. Once we had Christina Brosnan and Best Day Productions on board, it all started to fall into place. Both Lindsay and I are huge Audrey Tautou fans and when we started thinking about models it occurred to us that FAB collaborator Roisin bears a striking resemblance to the actress. After a little cajoling Roisin agreed to be our model and to bring her handsome boyfriend William along as Nino. After months of planning and prop gathering, we set off on a trip to Paris!

Since the film itself was shot in Montmarche in Paris we thought- what better place to base our own shoot! Amelie worked at Cafe des deux Moulins so of course we stopped off there and also got some fun shots at the carousel at Sacre Couer. MariEmilie from Mon Plus Beau Jour was essential as our Paris guide and an invaluable on-site help, and we were lucky enough to have Farrell and Chase‘s Pamela agree to do our stationery. She created a gorgeous suite with our color palette and a beautiful quirky font, and made several signs with quotes from the film, as above.

We kept the tone light and I think a sense of the fun we had on this shoot comes across in the images. The palette we used was similar to that of the film- green and red. We wanted Amelie to have a 1950s style look with a modern twist, in the style of the film but easy for modern brides to recreate. Her outfit was a vintage off-white tea-length dress with a black velvet bow belt. I had actually tried on the gown in Dirty Fabulous as a possibility for my own wedding dress and when we were brainstorming outfit ideas Lindsay remembered it. It worked out perfectly! As a cover up for over the dress there were two options which we alternated in the photos- a green 1950s jacket and a red cardigan.  Our Amelie also wore vintage green velvet gloves and a gold ring. We added socks under her shoes for a look that was that little bit quirky but still really cute. Lexi DeRock did an amazing job with Roisin’s hair and make up, keeping the look porcelain-skinned with red lips and black eye liner and styling her hair in a 1950s-reminiscent up-do. The look for Nino came together as preppy-vintage with wine cords, a plaid bow tie and suspenders under a navy cardigan.

Our props were inspired by details in the film: a moped, gnome, vintage keepsake boxes, an old bundle of letters, invites hanging on a clothes line, a photo album, a photo booth, cherry earrings and a red vintage suitcase courtesy of Steamline. We thought a single flower would work best as Amelie’s bouquet to keep the look simple and sweet and the large poppy we used was just the ticket (and by coincidence particularly appropriate for Veteran’s Day today!)

We were incredibly lucky to have an amazing team of vendors on board that really made our vision come to life. We can’t thank them enough for their help and we had an absolute blast working together: they are really worth checking out below.
