I’m delighted to welcome Emily Carlill from Love me Sew back to the blog this afternoon. After crafting her own DIY wedding in 2011, Emily Carlill now continues to make lots of items for other people’s weddings. She also makes up one half of Love Me Sew, a crafty business selling fabric, craft packs and running workshops. Emily is a DIY expert, last time she showed us how to make these Fabric Napkin Rings and today she is showing us how to make these super cute Cutlery Pouches.

STEP 1) Cut the hessian fabric Measure the length of the cutlery. My knife (the longest of the cutlery) measured 24cm, so I made the dimensions of my piece of hessian: 58cm x 12cm. STEP 2) Press the seams Turn the edges of the two long sides over by approximately 1cm and press. Repeat with the short sides, pop a pin in to hold if required. On short sides, sew a line of small zig zag stitches to hold the folds/seams in place. STEP 3) Attach the lace trim Place the lace trim along the top edge of the front of one of the short sides, pin in place and fold the ends to the back of the hessian. Using a straight stitch, sew across the top of the lace to hold in place, stay stitching at the start and end of the line of stitches. STEP 4) Fold the hessian to make a pouch Fold the bottom edge of hessian, the edge with the lace up approximately 21cm (this may differ depending on the size of cutlery and the size of hessian you cut in Step 1), press and pin. Fold the top edge of the hessian, the edge without the lace down approximately 6cm (this may differ depending on the size of cutlery and the size of hessian you cut in Step 1), until the both the top and bottom edges meet but not overlap. Press and pin. STEP 5)  Sew to finish the pouch Starting from one corner of pouch, sew all the way around the pouch a few mm from the edge. You can also decorate with different lace, fabric, buttons or whatever trims you like. STEP 6) Finishing Pop in your cutlery and place on top of your pretty plates!
