DIY Tutorial: Linen Favour Bag

DIY Tutorial: Linen Favour Bag

via

I’m delighted to welcome Emily Carlill from Love me Sew back to the blog this afternoon. After crafting her own DIY wedding in 2011, Emily Carlill now continues to make lots of items for other people’s weddings. She also makes up one half of Love Me Sew, a crafty business selling fabric, craft packs and running workshops. Emily is a DIY expert, last time she showed us how to make a super cute Fabric Gift Tags and today she is showing us how to make these Linen Favour bags to go with them.

STEP 1) Cut the fabric Cut two piece of linen: 15cm x 18cm. Repeat with the lining fabric so you finish with four piece in total: two linen for the outer bag, and two pieces for the lining. STEP 2) Attach the linen and lining fabric. Place one piece on linen, right-sides (patterned-sides) together, with the lining fabric. Pin across one short side. Using a 1cm seam allowance, sew across the top (the short side where you placed your pins). Repeat for the other piece of linen and lining fabric. Press the seams open. STEP 3)  Attach the trim Measure approximately 1cm from the centre seam and pin the trim in place across the piece of linen. Repeat for both pieces of linen. Using coordinating thread, sew the trim to the linen. STEP 4)  Sew the bag together Place the pieces of linen/lining fabric, right-sides (patterned-sides) together, matching up the centre seam. Pin all the way around. Starting from the bottom of the lining, using a 1cm seam allowance, sew all the way around the bag, stopping about 3cm from where you started. Stay stitch at the start of your stitches and at the end (this will help to stop the stitches from becoming loose when you turn the bag the right way out). Clip the corners. STEP 5) Finishing Turn the bag the right way out through the 3cm opening at the bottom of the lining fabric. Press and hand-sew closed the opening. Push the lining fabric into the linen fabric to form your bag. Press. Top stitch, a few mm from the edge, around the top of the bag. Pop your favour inside and tie the top of the bag with pretty ribbon or twine!
