The wedding date is closing in on us. The countdown is no longer in weeks, but days, which is a really scary thought. I thought that you may like to see my wedding stationery, now that all of the invitations and RSVPs have been sent out and returned. In the last week I also designed and printed the Order of Service, which follows a similar theme. Watch this space.

The wedding stationery was a big deal to me. As an art school graduate, I couldn’t let other people take control of the design work for my wedding. I knew all along it should be down to me. A big task, but now it’s all done, it was worth the hours in front of a screen spent with blood shot eyes and a sore neck.

The Save the Date cards were a bit of fun, and a trial run really for printing purposes. I was so chuffed to get these through the post. They were exactly as I’d hoped, and I would totally recommend using Moo.com for printing services. We chose a matte finish business card with rounded edges. To save on postage we waited til Christmas and put them in the Christmas cards to save ourselves a bit of cash (don’t we know it’s hugely important!) Since sharing photos of these I have listed custom portrait versions in my Etsy shop, which couples have used as Save the Dates and Wedding Thank Yous.

Next up came the invitations themselves. To tell the truth, I’d been working on them for months. I knew I wanted ‘Our Story’ to be told on the invitiations, we really didn’t want anything formal- it wouldn’t suit our wedding, so I went for postcards (again printed at Moo) with the details about the Church and Reception on the reverse. I designed two versions-one for the day and one for the evening.

As we are having a choice of food, guests were given a menu printed on yellow paper (and designed to fit the style of the invites) and asked to choose their food by ticking the back of their RSVP cards (again, rounded edge business cards). In the invitations we included small brown money envelopes, on which we stuck a label with our address printed (stamp bought from The Yellow Note on etsy) We found this made life simple for the guests, although some were stuck in bigger envelopes and one or two did get lost in the post (apparently!)

We stuck the whole bundle of info in a bright yellow envelope, contained in a yellow belly band, and finished off the envelopes with a custom printed sticker from azultuquesa on etsy. I probably went a little overboard for some people; it did take a lot of time to design, organise and put together, but for me, this was far more important than hair, makeup, flowers and cake.

I have to admit I’m pretty pleased with what I managed to do, and I know that it’s completely suited to us. It was also soooo difficult to keep it to myself, and not show anyone what I was planning. I knew it was right when I gave out my first invitation to one of my closest friends- she cried! Job done!
