Rhiannon & Ben

Rhiannon and Ben’s colourful Geelong wedding is full of life and personality. From the bouquets bursting with colour to the handmade fabric backdrop that hung behind them as they said their vows.

Rhiannon tells their story “We met at a nightclub but didn’t get together until a few months later when he tracked me down on Facebook and was very persistent in getting a first date!

I thought he was hot and he had a real scallywag sort of charm to him which made me agree to eventually go on a date. We had so much fun drinking and talking that we forgot to even order dinner! He was just so funny and a real gentleman, I liked him right away. He then said he would make it up to me on a second date a few days later. I was a bit smitten with him already so agreed. This turned out to be the best date I had ever been on. I had never had so much fun with anyone before! Towards the end of the night he got down on two knees at a pub in Melbourne in front of everyone and asked me to be his girlfriend. I thought “Is this guy for real!?” He’s a pretty random bloke. He said he had a feeling he was going to marry me eventually so I may as well just say yes. I’m glad I didn’t say no!

We have barely spent a night apart since and have been together for almost 2 years. He asked me to marry him as a surprise at my 30th birthday party. Again on two knees it was the sweetest moment but at first I thought he was joking because he is such a prankster. It was so exciting to then walk back into my party and announce that we were now engaged! I couldn’t stop crying (tears of happiness of course!)”

The bright and fun moments of today’s wedding were wonderfully captured by Lauren Alyce Photography.

Flowerbowl styled the flower and decor for the day, Rhiannon explaining, “My sister in Law Jodie, owner of the Flowerbowl, is the DIY queen and I couldn’t have done it without her. We made the pretty bunting you see behind us at the ceremony, the big bold signage to greet guests, the lolly bar etc. All bright which I love.”

Rhiannon wore a Sarah Seven gown and Samantha Wills  jewels purchased at The Bridal Atelier. She remembers, “Choosing a dress is no easy feat but Erin was just beautiful to deal with. Very professional and personable. I highly recommend the Bridal Atelier for all future brides. Their dresses are divine.” Rhiannon’s bridesmaids wore gowns from Life with Bird.

Stevie Connoley from Salon Jenaire, Lisa from Miennas &  Prue from Blink Twice styled the girls hair and makeup. Rhiannon commenting, “They did such fabulous work on all the hair and makeup. The girls looked stunning on the day! I’m not the girliest girl and had unbelievably NEVER had my hair OR makeup done ever so Stevie made me feel like a real princess.”

Of their photographer, Rhiannon says,”She made us all feel really relaxed and everything was just so easy. The photos were beautiful and natural and I couldn’t be happier. I couldn’t stop crying when I first saw them…brought back the whole day. As we got married in Autumn, the photos all had the really lovely colours through them. We had them taken in two really random spots, a stranger’s front garden and an industrial alley way but I think they turned out spot on. She was really sweet the next day too coming over with a few shots all nicely framed! Was the best little surprise.”

“Jodie ( Flowerbowl) went to such a huge effort to get these (the flowers) just perfect and make sure they were really suited to Ben and I. I loved how bright and colorful they were. I like things to stand out and stand out they did! She was the ultimate bridesmaid also and my wedding plans went a whole lot smoother with her help.”

Barwon Edge Boathouse hosted the wedding. Rhiannon remarking, “We had both ceremony and reception at the Boathouse. The venue itself has a really relaxed vibe to it. Beautiful green lawns outside and then great space for the reception. Ben was fantastic to deal with, really laid back and made us feel at ease with every meeting we had. Everything from start to finish went very smoothly. I only wish that we had longer! I didn’t want the night to end.”

Rhiannon walked down the aisle to Otis Redding – Dock of the Bay.

Jo Betz married the couple. “She did such a great job making sure her words were suited to us. It wasn’t too formal which we had asked for. She was so helpful with everything and she’s just the loveliest smiliest person.”

Ben’s aunty made a croquembouche for the couple’s wedding cake.

Clare Westwood of Victor Fox created the stationery, Rhiannon telling, “Her work on our invites really set a cool and trendy standard for the decorative part of the whole wedding. They were Lime and fluoro green with black and white trimmings and just suited mine and Ben’s personality so much. I just adored them so had her do tags for our lolly bar also. They were just really rad.”

Family was an important part of the day, Rhiannon remarking, “I love Lynn Armstrong – my new Mother in Law. I seriously don’t have enough words to explain just what an amazing woman she is. Her support throughout the wedding was out of this world and she went above and beyond to make sure I was always organized and most of all happy all the time.”

Of their first dance. Rhiannon recalls, “We had Jimmy Barnes/Tina Turner ‘Simply the Best’. Ben and I love this song and the words are spot on. We didn’t exactly have the best dance moves but we made it work on the night. We were cut short by my dad who demanded to take over the dancefloor!”

“I loved everyone dancing up a storm at the reception! It was such a great part of the night to see all of our closest friends and family having such a blast.”

Congratulations on your marriage Rhiannon and Ben! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us! Thank you to Lauren Alyce Photography for sharing today’s wedding with us!
