Pretty Wedding Cake Plates ✈ Friday’s FAB 5

via

Friday again, how does it roll around so quick? We talked last week about designing your wedding cake and today to follow on from this we have some really pretty examples of wedding cake plates, along with a little advice on picking the best one for your cake. So firstly, the size of your plate is important. Normally it should be about an inch, or a little less, bigger than the base of your wedding cake. But actually you can create different effects with the size of your plate. If it’s on the small side (so your cake comes to the edge of the plate) this will create the effect of your cake being perched on top of the stand, and it will look bigger than it actually is. A plate that is bigger around the base of your cake will create the illusion that the cake is smaller than it is. Here’s an example of each of these:

Keep in mind what colour your cake will be to pick a complementary plate shade. We generally see pretty muted colours for cake plates- since couples usually want the cake to be the main focus- but it’s your wedding and if this is one of the places you want to bring in a pop of colour, then go for it! Either keep it simple with opaque or clear glass, get a bit fancier with a metallic platter, or go rustic with a tree stump. You can even DIY your plate with a nice sturdy candlestick and a plate glued to the top of it! It needs to be pretty secure to avoid cake disaster, so just make sure it is. Before placing your cake on the plate, it’s useful to put down some wax paper or a doily underneath (hidden from view) to save the surface from knife marks when you cut the cake. Here are a few cake plates we love:
